Hans Bernard has been appointed as the Associate Vice President for State and Community Affairs at the University of Oregon. He joins the Office of Government and Community Relations where he is leading the university’s state and community relations programs.

Legislature to convene November 20-22


The Oregon Legislature will convene on November 20-22 to conduct business during interim legislative days. Legislators will introduce committee bills to be considered during the 2014 legislative session, receive a revenue forecast from the State Economist, and consider executive appointment to boards and commissions among other business.November 20

Senator Merkley celebrates non-discrimination vote at UO; Oregon delegation connects to campus


Several dozen University of Oregon students, faculty and staff joined U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), at the Knight Library on Friday November 8 to celebrate the Senate’s passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act or ENDA.  Merkley co-authored the legislation that would ban workplace discrimination against gay and transgender employees.

University of Oregon and local partners host Regional Prosperity Summit


The University of Oregon along with the cities of Eugene and Springfield, Lane County, and the Eugene and Springfield Chambers of Commerce hosted a two day summit to discuss the community’s progress toward achieving regional economic development goals.

AAU and APLU working to avert sequestration


The Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) on November 4 sent a letter to the FY14 budget conference committee members urging them to reach an agreement that repeals the sequester, at least temporarily, and makes possible greater investments in research and higher education in order to help close the innovation deficit.
