Finding a place to rent
- UO Housing and Resources website: Links for many resources related to housing, including university housing, off campus housing, tips and resources, housing insecurity, and more.
- UO Off-Campus Housing website: Explore and post vacancies, find a roommate, and get renter tips.
- Before you sign: Many landlords require renter’s insurance. Ask your landlord about required insurance, parking rules, and trash pickup days.
Your rights as a renter
- ASUO Legal Services: Your student fees help pay for advice and support related to signing a lease and renters rights.
- City of Eugene Rental Housing Program: Oregon law & Eugene rules require safe, livable housing (heat, hot water, working plumbing, secure doors/windows, no mold/major pests). The City of Eugene offers resources for renters and information on how to file a complaint.

Basic needs support
The UO Basic Needs program connects students to campus and community resources for food, stable housing, childcare, and other essentials. All UO-enrolled students are eligible.
Resources include:
- Student food pantry
- Rent assistance
- Discounted school supplies
- Childcare assistance
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): State-run program that helps eligible individuals buy food.
Parking & getting around town
Bus & EmX
- EMX Bus: Quick rides every 10 minutes from campus to downtown Eugene, Springfield, and more.
- LTD Bus: Offers comprehensive bus service across Eugene and Lane County.
- UO students and employees have access to a free bus pass using the Umo app. A new benefit code must be redeemed each August: transportation.uoregon.edu/bus
Parking
- Ask your landlord about on-site parking options: Neighborhoods adjacent to the UO Eugene campus are in a city residential parking zone. If you park on the street, you may need a City of Eugene permit.
- Parking on campus during the day? Purchase a permit or use the AMP app for hourly parking: transportation.uoregon.edu/zones
- Parking in town? Use the ParkSmart or ParkMobile apps.

Biking
Eugene and Springfield offer a variety of safe biking routes.
- PeaceHealth Rides (bike share): Eugene's bike share program is popular with the UO community. ASUO supports exclusive pricing for UO students and employees: transportation.uoregon.edu/peacehealth-rides-bike-share-program
- Register and secure your bike. Bike theft is common in Eugene. Lock your bike using both a cable and U-lock, and register your bike with UO.
- UO Bike Program: Part of the UO Outdoor Program, the Bike Program offers free do-it-yourself maintenance workspaces, classes, rentals, rides and campus biking information..
Other transportation
- Duck Rides: Free rides for students from 6 p.m. to midnight. Schedule a ride or view current wait times using the Duck Rides mobile app or by calling 541-346-7433.
- FlixBus and Amtrak offer long-distance transportation options, including to Portland, Corvallis, and Salem.
- Uber, Lyft, and local taxis are available in Eugene. Check your UO email for discount coupons on rideshares.

Knowing the law & off-campus parties
Did you know the UO Student Code of Conduct applies off campus? If you are cited or warned for illegal behavior off campus, it could result in UO student conduct action, legal fines, and/or landlord notification.
Know the laws
- Prohibited Noise: In Eugene, noise that annoys or disturbs a reasonable person of normal sensitivities or injures or endangers a person or property is prohibited 24 hours a day. Eugene Code 4.080(2)
- Amplified sound limits: Operating or permitting the use or operation of any devices designed for sound production, reproduction, or amplification can not be plainly audible within any dwelling unit which is not the source of the sound between 10 pm and 7 am., or 50 feet away on public property or in the public right of way unless authorized in writing by a government entity. Eugene Code 4.083
- Unruly Gatherings ordinance: If alcohol is served or consumed and two or more listed behaviors occur (e.g., alcohol violations, assault/menacing/harassment, disorderly conduct, noise disturbance, criminal mischief, public urination/defecation, littering, illegal fireworks), hosts/organizers face fines and may be billed for police/emergency response on repeat events within 12 months.
