The Oregon Legislature will convene on November 20-22 to conduct business during interim legislative days. Legislators will introduce committee bills to be considered during the 2014 legislative session, receive a revenue forecast from the State Economist, and consider executive appointment to boards and commissions among other business.
November 20
The House Interim Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development Committee will convene at 8:00 am. The committee’s agenda includes a discussion of higher education and work force development issues of concern to the Oregon Latino community, a presentation on Portland State University’s Four Year Graduation Guarantee, an update from the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC), and a conversation on higher education athletic department hiring practices. At 2:00 pm, the Senate Interim Committee on rules will meet to consider executive appointments. The agenda includes consideration of Governor John Kitzhaber’s nominees to the boards of trustees for the University of Oregon, Portland State University, and Oregon State University. At 8:00 am, the State Economist will present the December revenue forecast to a joint meeting of the House Interim Revenue Committee and the Senate Interim Committee on Finance and Revenue. The Joint Interim Special Committee on University Governance and Operations will meet at 9:00 am (agenda). The committee, which was created by SB 270, will receive a report from the Presidents’ Work Group on University Shared Services, discuss governance of technical and regional universities and options for the Chancellor’s Office, and receive a presentation by HECC Executive Director Ben Cannon and Oregon Community College Association President Andrea Henderson on shared academic services. The Senate Interim Committee on Education and Workforce Development will convene at 2:00 pm.
