Public officials participate in TrackTown12 at UO’s Hayward Field

Local, state, and federal officials participated in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field at historic Hayward Field from June 22-July 1. More than 30 officials were introduced on the track in the opening ceremonies and participated in presenting medals to athletes throughout the 10-day event.

Travel Lane County estimated the total impact of TrackTown12 on the local economy at $31 million. Public agencies partnered with the Local Organizing Committee, led by the Oregon Track Club and other partners to support the event.  Business Oregon, the Oregon State Legislature, Lane County, and the Cities of Eugene and Springfield were some of the many partners that made investments to enhance public safety measures and the business of further growing Track Town USA.

Elected officials, board members, and agency heads from the city of Springfield, Springfield Public Schools, Willamalane Park and Recreation District and Springfield Utility Board that make up Team Springfield (pictured above) are just some of the many public officials who joined the festivities.  Team Springfield was recognized at the Fan Festival for the agencies' partnership in supporting the Olympic Trials.
