You are invited to join a conversation about the future of federal student aid with Congressman Peter DeFazio. This panel discussion and Q&A will include brief remarks by Congressman DeFazio, University of Oregon and Lane Community College student aid offices, and current LCC and UO students. UO Vice President for Enrollment Management Roger Thompson will facilitate the conversation.
Date: Monday, May 4
Time: 12:45 pm
Location: University of Oregon Many Nations Longhouse (between the Law School and Global Scholars Hall)

Congressman DeFazio will focus on troubling developments in Congress’s FY16 budget resolution and his efforts to prevent dramatic cuts to federal student aid programs. The budget resolution that Congress is currently considering would eliminate all mandatory funding for Pell Grants, eliminate in-school subsidies for undergraduate Stafford loan, and eliminate the Public Sector Loan Forgiveness Program (more here: http://studentaidalliance.org/). Other panelists will put the value of federal student aid programs in the context of the UO and LCC.
The event is meant as a conversation with short presentations to allow for plenty of time for discussion with audience members. Please come ready to discuss this important issue!
