University and community leadership welcome students back to campus neighborhoods


On a beautiful, warm and sunny afternoon, neighborhoods near the UO were traversed by more than 60 community and university leaders. UO President Mike Schill, Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy, ASUO President Helena Schlegel and many additional city and university leaders went door-to-door during the annual Community Welcome on September 29.

Congress approves short-term funding measure, Perkins Loan program expires


On September 30, Congress approved a 10-week funding measure, known as a continuing resolution (CR), just in time to send it to President Obama for his signature before Fiscal Year 2016 began at midnight. Those actions avoided a government shutdown.

Oregon institutions and researchers oppose cuts to special education research


Over 75 organizations and more than 1,700 individuals signed onto a September 10 letter to US House appropriators expressing strong opposition to proposed funding decreases to the US Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences (IES) included in the FY2016 appropriations measure that passed out of the House Appropriations Committee.
