US Senate gives final approval to budget resolution
On May 5, the US Senate gave final approval to the FY16 budget resolution conference report (S. Con. Res. 11), marking the first time in six years that Congress has been able to agree on a budget blueprint. The measure, which passed the Senate by a vote of 51 to 48, provides overall guidance for spending. Unlike appropriations bills which have the force of law, the resolution does not. It is significant because it signifies the approach Congress will take in enacting spending bills. It was approved by the House on April 30.

Delegation update: DeFazio on campus, Wyden re-introduces right-to-know legislation
On May 4, US Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-OR-4) participated in a panel discussion at the University of Oregon to discuss the future of federally funded student aid programs. He was joined on the panel by UO Assistant Vice President for Student Financial Aid and Scholarships Jim Brooks, Lane Community College (LCC) Director of Student Aid Helen Faith, Associated Students of Lane Community College President Malisa Ratthasing, and UO students Giselle Sheeran and Stefani Aleman.

Salem update: session passes halfway mark, revenue forecast on May 14
With the goal of adjourning sine die by the end of June, the 76th Oregon Legislative Assembly passed the halfway point at the end of April. In an effort to meet deadlines imposed by the rules of the Senate and the House of Representatives, the Capitol has been a hectic place for the past month.

Students serve the community during Spring Day of Service
On April 25, more than 230 UO students and staff completed service projects in near campus neighborhoods during the 2015 Spring Day of Service. The day started at Mac Court with refreshments and opening remarks from student leaders and Mayor Kitty Piercy, Acting Provost Frances Bronet, and Dean of Students Paul Shang.
