Congressman DeFazio to hold forum on campus


US Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon) will be on the University of Oregon campus today, January 22, and January 23 for a series of events. Starting at 6pm on January 22, Congressman DeFazio will hold a public forum about fast track authority and the Trans-Pacific Partnership in the Erb Memorial Union’s Fir Room.

Mind the Gap performs at Edison Elementary


The University of Oregon’s own student co-ed a cappella group, Mind the Gap, performed for a large crowd at WinterSing, a holiday song event hosted at Edison Elementary by the school and the South University Neighborhood Association (SUNA).

Omnibus passage resolves FY 14 budget


On January 18, President Obama signed into law a $1.1 trillion dollar budget deal that will fund the federal government until September. Federal programs that support university-based research and education received some relief from the FY13 sequester, which implemented mandatory spending cuts across federal agencies.

Higher Education Coordinating Commission changes


SB 270 and HB 3120 reconfigured the Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC), which was initially established during the 2011 Oregon legislative session with the passage of SB 242 to coordinate between Oregon’s universities and community colleges.

Oregon Legislature holds organizational days, previews 2014 session


The Oregon Legislature met from January 15-17 to prepare for the 2014 short-session. During this three day meeting, legislators considered several bills of interest to the higher education community and received a preview of higher education capital projects.
