On April 20, Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon) was on campus to offer the keynote address at the Oregon Law Review’s event: A Step Forward: Creating a Just Drug Policy for the United States. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici (D-Oregon), a graduate of the Law School and former member of the Oregon Law Review’s staff while a student, introduced Blumenauer. The symposium brought together experts from a range of disciplines to explore the issue of drug policy. Chief US District Court Judge for the District of Oregon Ann Aiken also participated in the conference. While on campus, Blumenauer met with faculty and students and toured research facilities.
On April 21, US Senator Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon), Eugene Mayor Kitty Piercy, and Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg participated in the grand opening of the University of Oregon Student Veterans Center. The center, located in the Erb Memorial Union, provides a dedicated space for student veterans to investigate resources and gather with other veterans at the university. Wyden and DeFazio offered remarks at the event and participated in the ribbon cutting.
