Government and Community Relations: Explore Oregon

EXPLORE OREGON

Saturday, June 16  ●   1 p.m. reception

Dear Policy Makers, Community Leaders, and UOAA Alumni Board Members:

Please join us for an Explore Oregon tour of the university’s newest residence hall and learn about the future of housing on campus from university leaders.  Find out about the UO’s long-term housing plan of housing 25% of students on campus and how that plan fits into our academic mission.

The Global Scholars Hall is set to open in fall 2012 and will create a home for 450+ students immersed in a challenging world of global study and culture.  The new building, supported by Oregon Legislature-approved XI F (1) bonds, features a variety of living spaces and an inspiring design, incorporating areas for classes, dining, performance, and residential faculty.

Located on Moss Street in the east campus area, it will provide a dynamic learning environment for students in the Clark Honors College, College of Arts and Sciences’ College Scholars, and language immersion programs.  The building will include housing for a live-in scholar, a learning commons, a full-time librarian, five multi-purpose rooms/classroom, a multipurpose performance room, study rooms, presentation practice rooms, and large café.

Explore Oregon will include remarks from university leaders and students, an overview of current and future University Housing programs and projects, and a tour of the new facility.

The event will begin at the nearby Museum of Natural and Cultural History’s new Galleria, a meeting space created as part of the recent building expansion to provide more space for collections, exhibits and events.

Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

"Explore Oregon" is a series of events tailored for policy makers and civic and community leaders. Each program is a stand-alone opportunity to learn about an aspect of the University of Oregon.
