University of Oregon launches Around the O Community Edition

UO Celebration Parade

June 5, 2018

Around the O Community Edition, a new quarterly publication, will highlight the events and resources of the University of Oregon that matter to community members: major events that impact campus neighbors, construction updates, news on important collaborations, and UO resources that community members can enjoy.

Senior Director of Community Relations Matt Roberts shared his thoughts on the new quarterly email in a message:

Dear Community Members,

Welcome to the inaugural edition of Around the O Community Edition. We know many of you receiving this edition already receive our original Around the O weekly email. This version will provide access to some of those stories as well as information that is most requested by our near and not-so-near neighbors. We will include a calendar of activities and major events, both athletic and non-athletic, updates on construction projects and activities such as move-in/move-out and Commencement. We hope that this will be a proactive way for us to provide relevant information to both contribute to our vibrant community and alleviate any headaches that inherently exist when living near campus.

UO’s Eugene campus is experiencing change at a pace I’ve never seen in my 20 years here. This is in large part due to the leadership of President Michael Schill and his mission-focused desire to provide our state and region a preeminent institution both physically and educationally. Research, teaching and an exceptional student experience are top priorities. Providing state-of-the-art facilities that enhance research, teaching and the student experience go hand in hand.

With new facilities comes construction, which in a compact campus and neighborhood has an impact on all of us. We will do our best to help mitigate these impacts by keeping you informed. I hope that you can join our excitement as we welcome the growth that will move the University of Oregon into an exciting future.

I hope you find Around the O Community Edition informative and interesting. If you have any ideas for future issues, or ideas about information that would help you navigate living near the university, please provide us feedback. We want this to be helpful for you and a proactive way for us to let you know our plans for the future.

Sincerely,

Matt Roberts, Senior Director of Community Relations

To support UO's efforts to keep community members informed, a team is creating a comprehensive website that will display expected impacts to neighbors from construction projects on campus. This page, currently under construction, will be similar to the Knight Campus Construction and Traffic Update page.
