U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley and U.S. Congressman Peter DeFazio visit campus, offer talks


With the U.S. Congress in recess in the run-up to the November 6 elections, lawmakers are spending time in their districts. Both U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Oregon) and Congressman Peter DeFazio (D-Oregon) took this opportunity to visit the University of Oregon.

Oregon Education Investment Board meets to discuss budget; forum scheduled at UO on October 17


At its October 9 meeting, the Oregon Education Investment Board (OEIB) received draft budget recommendations prepared by the Education Funding Team. The governor charged the Education Funding Team (EFT) to recommend to him a prioritized list, from top to bottom, of investments that the state could make in education.

Special Committee on University Governance passes recommendations to legislature


On October 4, the Special Legislative Committee on University Governance unanimously voted to send Legislative Concept 759 and recommendations to the legislature and governor. LC 759 would allow the University of Oregon and Portland State University to create their own governing boards.

The UO Celebrates Eugene at 150


As part of the Eugene community, the University of Oregon is participating in the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the city’s founding. Eugene became a city on October 17, 1862, thanks to the efforts of Eugene Skinner. The UO was founded just 14 years later, in 1876.
